Re: Niva vs. Porsche Cayenne S
vielä ku ymmärtäis mitä tossa sanotaan, mutta kuvan perusteella näyttäisi siltä, että Lada on vertailun voittaja.

Tässäpä "suomennos" kyseisestä testistä:
"My German's good and this translation of the video script .... which basically sums up as : if you like comfort and technology, the Porsche is a better bet. If you want to do extreme offroading and want money to spare to buy a boat as well as a car, then buy the Lada. I can't say I agree with the final statement that the Porsche offers more car for the money. You just get more safety, comfort and more gadgets with the Porsche.

The Cayenne turbo S is the most powerful and most expensive offroader in the World. We will compare it against the Russian cult 4x4 Lada Niva.
1st guy is a design consultant. Not exactly cool but hugely interesting.
The differences are huge. Given that the Porsche costs 110,000 Euros and the Niva around 11,000 there are clearly huge differences in purchase and running costs.
Huge differences are also apparent in the design. Professor Peter Seetz, founder of the famous red dot design awards explains...
"The Lada looks from today's viewpoint somewhat old fashioned but you must bear in mind that the design is 30 years old but 30 years ago, these lines (bonnet) were completely modern; such cars in this form were built : with straight and angular shapes, you might say square and practical. The only point of controversy is around this area: the indicators which appear in an area where you simply would not expect them. On the whole, however, the shape of the car gives a very pleasant impression.
A very noteworthy item when looking at the car from the side are these wavy door jambs (i.e. the side steps). They beg the question as to what function they have. Perhaps you can stand on them when travelling over particularly uneven ground and maybe several people can stand one them while travelling over rough ground.
Getting in is not very easy, especially if you are tall. The impression inside is of a certain frugality and from the design point of view, nothing here appears right.
The Porsche has a very organic design; it has the appearance of a sculpture. It also appears too large; as if it is a charming overgrown baby. In comparison with the Lada, there is nothing wanting in the interior, however when you look closer, for example here (round the gearlever) where the aesthetic components have the appearance of aluminium, the fact that they are actually made of plastic is unbelievable in a car of this price.
The Russian has 82 honest horsepower from a 4 cylinder engine.
The Porsche has a turbo, 8 cylinders and more than 6 times the power; tilting at windmills. The sound of 521 horses soon diminishes but the East-block offroader remains in the running, since giving up us not the Lada's game and the driver must also be brave since powersteering is lacking.
ABS is also not part of the unbreakable classic.
Offroad, the Niva has a legendary reputation. Herbert Eiler takes us on a special test drive. Given the technical aids we see here, this car definitely belongs offroad. It is surprising that the traction of this car is fantastic. In some circumstances you may wish for more torque but you can overcome this with concentration and use of the throttle. This is simply a proper classic offroader that you can use offroad.
The Porsche Cayenne is without doubt lord of the road. It is a very pleasant place to be for the driver; the technology removes almost all of the effort and this also makes it the safer car offroad, however the Lada Niva could certainly outperform it in more extreme circumstances.
Scene change. How multi-purpose both cars are can be demonstrated by the banks of the Essen Balden lake. The Lada has no problem with boat trailers up to 1.5 tonnes in weight. The Porsche shows its towing capabilities via the press of a button. With a maximum towing weight of 3.5 tonnes it is ready for any towing eventuality.
Whether you could also afford to buy a boat after buying the Porsche is questionable.
If I had 110,000 Euros, I could buy 1 Porsche or 10 Ladas. The Porsche is packed with high technology that would offer very good protection to the occupants in an accident. The Lada has a 29 year old design and is practically a classic. It is simple a vehicle that gets you from A to B but no more. The Porsche offers more car for your money."
